Save Yourself The Embarrassment [true story]

August 19, 2010

Good afternoon world. Derrick “D.Star” Jackson here hanging in the alleyways of cyber space. I’ve decided that I am going to get back to posting on this site regularly. Probably won’t be life changing posts, but I’m sure there will be something that catches attention. Every since I started The Rapper Weed, I haven’t had much time for personal stuff online [beside Twitter and Facebook]due to the site’s increased popularity among the internet’s Hip-Hop community.

My inspiration to continue to feed you all The Devil’s Pie useful tidbits of info and personal encounters came this morning.

I had the opportunity to meet with a really cool business owner. He just so happened to be interested in some of my writing. Of course I didn’t want to initially direct him to WWW.THERAPPERWEED.COM (-_-) — You understand right!?! Didn’t want to send the wrong message LOL. So eminentPRceo.wordpress.com was the winner. I proudly write the url on a page of an important document he had and slide it back across the table to him in extreme confidence.

Then it hit me. I renovated this site a few months back, which left me with a previous post date of January 31, 2010 prior to today.

“WAY TO GO SELF,” I said in my mind along with a couple strong pimp hand slaps!

The moral of the story is stay on point! Just like your youth sports coach used to tell you:

“Always stay prepared so then when your number is called, you’re ready to go in the game and produce.”

Facebook’s Launches Foursquare Killer?

August 19, 2010

Facebook held a live launch event for its new feature that has been deemed by social media critics as the “Foursquare Killer.” We all knew it was only a matter of time before the social media giant added geo-tagging to their arsenal of useful features among even more useless ones.

How do you brand geo-loaction. Oh thats easy; you just call it “Facebook Places.”

#DeathTo Myspace

January 31, 2010

President Obama’s State Of The Union Address [video]

January 28, 2010

Ok, so yesterday I sent out a tweet saying that I would miss President Obama’s State of the Union Address. Of course, I did just that. I also said that I would watch it later [thank whatever internet gods may be for this] and tweet about it — as if I am watching it in real time. [LOL] No tom-foolery, here just a President addressing a country he inherited waist deep in nearly a decade of fuckery turmoil.

Apple’s MacBook Tablet… Tomorrow???

January 26, 2010

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve heard rumors about Apple’s big iTablet, iSlate or iSomething… You’ve also been hearing plenty of back-and-forth about whether this tablet is a 1) notebook replacement, 2) a super-sized iPhone, 3) the Mac version of a netbook, or 4) a competitor to the e-book readers.

I will be the one to tell you that it’s something like that, but its nothing like that [lol]. Seriously! Well, Apple will tell the world in a matter of hours, according to McGraw-Hill CEO Terry McGraw. See his CNBC appearance after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

A 7-year-old London boy named Charlie Simpson has so far raised more than $240,000. The kicker is that he did this using his bicycle and a web site dedicated to helping ordinary people raise extraordinary amounts for charity funds. Read CNN’s full report on this human interest story sweeping the nation!

Charlie Simpson’s web site is still open on for donations.

TRANSFORM YOUR “iPhone” INTO A RECORDING STUDIO

January 24, 2010

Ok, before anything gets twisted — I am #TeamBlackberry to the death! I have never looked [not for too long] nor touched [I can count on one  hand] an iPhone!!! But, this is seriously the dopest app known to mankind right now.

This is how Voice Band for the iPhone works: You put your vocals into your phone through the mic, and this app amazingly turns your voice into the sounds of instruments, and the quality is surprisingly good! – www.bitrebels.com

THERE’S AN APP FOR THAT *stupid iPhone commercial voice* TO GO ALONG WITH THIS GUY LOOKING LIKE AN COMPLETE IDOT WHILE DEMONSTRATING THIS.

Jay Frank Talks: Technology Dictates Music’s Future [interview]

Source: Hypebot.com

Why do you think it’s important for artists to understand that “technology dictates creativity, not the other way around,” that many of the “rules” that are in place today weren’t actually made with them in mind anyways?

Jay Frank: There are a lot of basics in songwriting that are considered natural laws.  These are your essential music theory rules such as chord structures, etc.  Plenty of other people cover those theories. The role technology has had in shaping music, however, has never gotten due credit.  Whether it was piano rolls a hundred years ago or MP3s today, the technical parameters of each have a profound impact on how people respond to the music contained on it.

I am loving this Hypebot interview on Jay Frank of FutureHit.DNA. He covers the importance of artists understanding that technology dictates creativity and by what means necessary. It’s a great read for anyone in the biz. Please do not sleep on this post. I initially seen Jabari make a post about it and I thought I should do my part and spread the word.

How to Keep a New Year’s Resolution

January 10, 2010

We are not yet far into 2010, but studies show that fewer than half of those who make New Year’s resolutions manage to keep them for as long as one month. What does this tell us about human nature, and our ability to live either prudently or ethically?…
